The Barbie Fallacy

Picture
The Barbie movie in 2023 was a billion-dollar smash hit. Its success was largely due to women who went to see the film in droves. Most of them loved its feminist message while men generally did not.

What is interesting is that the Barbie toy line calibrates at 283 while the Barbie film calibrates at only 184 (anything that tests at 200 or higher on the Map of Consciousness has a positive energy field while anything below 200 has a negative energy field).

This low calibration does not speak to the film’s entertainment value, as a film that is below 200 can still be entertaining. Rather, it speaks more to the message that the movie presents.

And what exactly is the main message of Barbie?

Apparently, it is that discovering who you really are is the most important thing there is, far more important than any relationship (which is why Barbie and Ken break up at the film’s end). You certainly can’t allow the everyday demands of a relationship to impugn upon your own personal journey of self-discovery! Better to be alone and fulfilled than with someone and unfulfilled.

This idea of self-discovery (figuring out who we are meant to be) has become an all-consuming societal obsession. What’s worse, it seems to be driving most people to the brink. Everyone is depressed and in therapy over the very idea of “self.” Everyone is desperately asking: Who am I? What is my purpose? Who am I meant to be? How can I be happy and fulfilled?

The good news is that I can answer all of these questions for you. It’s really quite simple, actually.

We have all been placed on this Earth for a very special purpose: to grow and evolve spiritually. Fortunately, this realm is the ideal place for such growth to occur as each of us are born into the perfect setting to allow this to happen. It involves working through our negative karma and (hopefully) accruing good karma.

We tend to think of certain people as privileged, but the truth is that we are all privileged. For to be born a human is a privilege, and a rare one. To have the opportunity to work through negative karma is a privilege.

Ultimately, if we can grow spiritually and reach the advanced spiritual state known as unconditional love (which is now easier and faster thanks to the new tools available such as Letting Go, Stacking, A Course in Miracles, Radical Truth, and Iboga), we can “graduate” from this realm, go to one of the higher regions of heaven, and not have to be reincarnated as a human again.

That is who you are. A soul who has been placed in a training ground and blessed with a rare opportunity to evolve to the next level.

Unfortunately, we tend to define ourselves not in a spiritual manner but by what we do for a living. But what you do is not who you are. Not understanding this is one of the biggest mistakes that people make.

We focus so much on our careers. We all desperately want a job that we find fulfilling. But the truth is that any job can be fulfilling… if you can learn to enjoy serving others. The problem is that most people don’t want to serve others, only themselves. And that is why they are miserably unhappy.

What ultimately matters is not what you do or what you experience but who you become (i.e. how much you grow spiritually). It is really about growth. If you make spiritual growth the focus of your life, everything else won’t matter so much. It won’t matter if you ever have a great career or an amazing relationship. You can be happy regardless of these things. You can even enjoy poverty.

Does this mean that we should all go live in a monastery and isolate ourselves from the world? Absolutely not. The best spiritual path involves living in the world and fully participating in it. It means growing in all kinds of ways, not just in the spiritual sense.

Getting back to the Barbie movie, our popular culture keeps pushing the idea that a relationship is something that holds you back, that prevents you from becoming your best self. In reality, a relationship is a perfect vehicle for growth, for it is often forces you to grow and to push yourself in ways you otherwise wouldn’t be motivated to. You can also weather most storms much easier with a partner than you ever could on your own. This path may not be the most fun in the short term, but it leads to true fulfillment which is the only thing that will ultimately matter in the long run.

Now, in order for a relationship to work, you can’t just focus on your own needs and desires. You will often need to put the needs and desires of others (your spouse and children) ahead of your own. If you can learn to enjoy serving others, this will be much easier.

It is tempting to choose the fun and easy path, but true self-esteem comes from accomplishment, from getting yourself to do difficult things. This temptation tends to be greatest for women. Thanks to birth control and legalized abortion, a young woman is now free to “ride the carousel” and have as many sexual partners as she wants. It is also easy now for women to cash in on their sexual power due to websites like OnlyFans. However, taking this fun and easy path will almost certainly lead to great pain in the long run for these women when their youth inevitably fades.

If our society is to reverse its current decline, it will only happen when people stop focusing on themselves (Barbie is a character who is ultimately focused on herself) and instead be willing to focus on serving others. For selfishness is at the heart of what plagues us. A selfish society will not thrive and prosper over the long run.

Finally, if you need any more proof that the Barbie movie offers a dark, destructive message disguised as positive empowerment, there was an article called Barbie Breakups which came out shortly after the film was released. It revealed that many women, after watching the movie, were breaking up with their boyfriends. Remember the days when Hollywood made movies that made you want to fall in love? Well, those days are clearly over. Now Hollywood makes movies that make you want to break up!

This is the Barbie fallacy.
