The Heart of Atheism

If you ask an atheist why he does not believe in God, he will probably say it is because of a lack of hard proof.

The problem with this is that while it is true that the existence of God cannot be proven via the scientific method (as it can only measure that which has form), there is still plenty of evidence that God exists.

There have been many reported near-death experiences in which people were clinically dead for several minutes and their spirit left the body and heard what people in the room were saying. Many also briefly went to heaven or hell. As a result of the experience, these people have been completely transformed which makes it unlikely that what they experienced was just a dream.

There is also mounting scientific evidence for reincarnation as young children are often able to recall past lives and offer specific details that have been verified. The odds of this happening by coincidence are astronomical.

So lack of proof isn’t the true reason why atheists refuse to believe in God. What then is it?

It really is about the nature of the human ego. The ego is the sense of a personal, separate self. When you say, “I am (your name),” that is your ego talking.

The ego is primarily concerned about its own survival, and it does not trust God. The ego secretly hates God and does not want to acknowledge His sovereignty. (Hawkins, 2006, pp. 121-123)

This is the heart of atheism.

For those of you who want to believe in God but find that you can’t, these are the humps that you need to get over. You need to be willing to trust God and acknowledge His sovereignty. It requires complete surrender which will not be easy.

But if everyone has an ego, then wouldn’t religious people have these same issues? They actually do have these same issues, but the difference is that they are unconscious.

It is actually possible to consciously love and worship God but to unconsciously have a hatred for God and to rebel against him. This is more common than you might think. Therefore, I recommend using the tools and methods mentioned in my book Christianity 2.0 such as Radical Truth and Iboga because they can get into the unconscious and help you correct these issues.
